About Hooshir A Cappella

Hooshir A Cappella is Indiana University’s only Jewish A Cappella group that was founded in 2006 out of IU Hillel. They are an all-gender group that sings a mix of songs showcasing Jewish culture and tradition – many in Hebrew – as well as all kinds of secular music. The group’s name is an Indiana-themed pun based on the Hebrew word “shir” (שירִׁ ( which means “song”. Hoo-Shir literally translates to “it’s a song” in Hebrew! Hooshir performs at campus and community events, synagogues, and would even love to break into the bar/bat mitzvah scene!
